Coloring Site and the rules of design
Coloring Page is one of the very most original forms of artistic expression. Heading in the past to the prehistoric times with the Lascaux Caves (some of the first registered human Coloring Web page), Coloring Site is practiced in every cultures all over the world and has been for more than 100 years. To keep it simple, we’ll showcase 19th and 20th century expressions to show ways to position the elements and key points of design to work.
The concepts of design are:
- Proportion and scale
- Repetition and pattern
- Unity and harmony
Balance is one of the most intuative and complicated design theory. It’s the way the musician creates a feeling of equilibrium in a design, by how the objects in the look are arranged. You will discover three major types of balance:
- Symmetrical/Formal Balance is when elements sit in such a way that two halves of the design (whether vertical or horizontal) are mirrors of each other – both attributes have the same weight. Its created around a central line that bisects the look into two different halves.
- Asymmetrical/Informal Balance is when elements are positioned so that there surely is an uneven distribution of weight
- Radial Balance is when elements are positioned uniformly around a central point
Percentage and Scale
The juxtaposition of elements of different sizes, or proportions, within the masterpiece of design helps create a feeling of scale. Level can be used for multiple effects – whether to show a sense of space and depth or to help build a dominant center point.
An enormous part of creating depth in an image, and involvement in a piece, is to apply multiple contrasting elements – or different elements set hand and hand. This is often finished with color, form, size or structure.

Repetition and pattern
The usage of the same or an identical element repeated again and again can give a work a feeling of movement or framework. Where an aspect is similar enough and repeated often enough, it can create a structure.
Unity and harmony
The blend of similar elements creates an aesthetically pleasing overall effect. While a lot of design elements will vary, a dominant unity created by commonalities in color, design, consistency or other elements makes the painting or design feel harmonious.
Translating to graphic design
Developer Bearbrick implements all of these concepts in his web design for Bright Austin Interiors.

Bearbrick uses proportion and scale to produce asymmetrical balance. Elements of different size and condition are positioned on a full page not to mirror one another but to balance one another out. He creates comparison in the juxtaposition of colorful elements against a white background.
Repetition can be used in the positioning of the circles. This pushes the viewer’s eyes to move between elements to be able to impart the information the client needs the audience to see. At the same time, pattern can be used as a refined aspect in this circle designs (in the flower pattern of the “about us” button as well as the repeated lines circling other rounded elements) to be able to generate interest – so that the design can be simple without having to be boring.
And while the several elements of the webpage find the user’s eyeball at differing times, the feminine style of the elements and the utilization of color make the site appear altogether harmonious. The design has motion, depth, interest and brings the user’s sight to the main information on the site – from the great exemplory case of a successful design.
